Staghorn Fern

Staghorn fern was originally a sketching tutorial, demonstrating how to use iPad to draw still life, but I liked the sketches of the demonstration process, and decided to spend two more hours to improve the degree of completion.

Painting includes several aspects, 1. Descriptive ability, 2. Balance and harmony, 3. Emotional expression and message transmission, 4. Originality and influence. Most aspects about learning painting about Descriptive Ability, from calligraphy to sketching, anatomy, color, perspective are all about acquiring descriptive ability. Many contemporary art skips the study of description ability and balance and harmony, which will lead to a huge gap between the artists and the audience. The same problem exists in Manga or Anime. Learning appearance is important, but describing things really requires more understanding of the true nature. Execution after understanding the essence hugely impact the learning curve.

Disbelieve of anything and everything?

If we can not fully understand and explain the most fundamental particles, any system builded on top could be questionable, such as any applied science.
If we can not fully trust people's speech who are still live today, how can we trust someone who had passed away from 2000 years ago, and messages who brought to us. Things build on top of these messages could be questionable.

Thus, people could get isolated due to there is so few common languages, belief, and connection.

A movie poster recently I did for Todd Myers' movie. The story happened in East Bay, around my current office. It is about Mexican and American's conflicts in 19th century.

One can be austere if he has no desires.

Standing on the shoulders of giants and showing the way for those to come. One can be austere if he has no desires.

Repost from an old post.

Art and Timeless

How do we know when a piece is truly art and good? We know it because it is timeless. This is a Play Station advertisement called "Mountain" Do we say it is Sony did it? or the director did it? or it is really the music? or it is the camera angle or it is the person had the original idea? or it is the Play Station creator? or it is the person funded the project? Maybe it is the FX company? Or it is all the actors in the shot? or it is the person did the marketing channel and successfully launched it? Or it is really the Youtube so we still can see it easily?

Cosmos in the hand.

Narrow the vision and it looks big; Wide open to see it small.
Vision becomes so blur. To see it clear by owning less.
Flower looks short life but last forever.

This rock is about 2 inch x 1 inch x 1/3 inch, and each photo represent about 0.5 square inches of it.

Changing World

Had woken up very early in the morning to capture some video clips before work. It is interesting to see how we changed everything we saw. Reminds me a popular quote by Julius Caesar: “Veni, vidi, vici. (I came, I saw, I conquered.)” and the concequence of that is Trees are gone; Wildlife are gone; Mountains are gone.
