This will be big help for my museum trip in Paris next month.





Current Show_2009 Western Regional Exhibition

This time is in Seattle Area, and the gallery is one of my favorite galleries around here. I always see some good oil paintings in this gallery. I am happy to be part of the show and hope I can continue it!

I started this painting from February and keep working on it several times and still feel there are areas which need to be fixed.

Now this painting named "Temptation", no sure who is tempting whom. This is from one of old friends and feel this is a good name for it.

一張被遺忘的畫,這張畫是好幾個月前畫的,這幾天才注意到沒有放上這來.

This is my first video with Canon 500D. First time shooting video with a DSLR CAMERA, which is new to me. Actually, I like shooting video more than photo now.

Edit the video with ZoomBrowser EX which is very limited and has some small problems when I was editing it.

第一次用單眼相機拍影片,感覺非常的新鮮,特別的有趣,星期日一早去吃飲茶,拍了一些片段,就把這些片段連接成一個完整的影片,這些影片本來都是1080P的,但軟體限制最後輸出被降成720P

EXOTIQUE 5

Always work in this year, and didn't get much chance to draw and paint digitally.
This is one of the few digital paintings which I did in this year, and was glad to get in and had full page in this EXOTIQUE 5.

The Left upper is Kekai Kotaki's painting_Concept Artist Lead in GW Team.

由於工作,沒甚麼機會繪製數位插畫,這張是今年少數的作品之一,很高興的進了這集的EXOTIQUE 5. 左上角的是做激戰插畫設計的其中一員,叫Kekai Kotaki

I was managing some old photos, and saw these pictures which I like.

以一個跨度較大的方式來看這些舊照片,發現因為相機特性,拍的主題和構圖也往往受牽連著,這台相機前置作業比較多,因此拍攝時特別注意各種細節,畫面往往四平八穩,構圖均衡,而且人物主體的照片也比較少.色彩偏向平淡樸實.

Kodak 14n是留最久的相機,也是最多問題的相機,不僅有在強光下會有紅暈,還有對某些鏡頭會產生左右色彩不均的問題.不過同時的,曝光良好的情況,照片品質大概是目前用過的相機裡成像最好的. 今天回頭看了2004年拍的照片,有一些比較喜歡的照片,挑了幾張放了上來.

I usually paint 16X20 for this type of subjects, and if I paint smaller, I only do head study. This is first time I paint figure in 9X12 canvas.

At begining, I just wanted to have fun but still end up trying hard to make it looks like something.

很少在這麼小的畫布上畫油畫,並且畫了近全身的人體.原本想隨興的畫一張,不過最後還是很費力的想把每個角落修到沒問題.

台灣動畫的期許

動畫和所有行業一樣,得根本去欣賞起,什麼是台灣本身特有的美,自然,水,空氣,人文,地理,歷史,這些都不需要動畫就可以去體驗和表現,當每個人都有了共識,動畫的品質自然就相對的提高.
看看台灣三義的木雕,全世界有多少地方可以生產出那樣有氣勢和闊度的作品,看看鎮瀾宮,或三峽祖師廟,目前所有在Zbrush論壇上的作品和這些木雕一比,不過都是小孩子作品.
台灣有絕對足夠的能力和資源去生產世界級的動畫,問題在於最根本的教育和自我體驗.
這些都是在國民基本教育上面就應該著手的,由這個點再去思考學校的教學,和體制,老師的體制,結構.德智體群美....整個教育過程中,台灣的教育少很多 面向. 我最感概的在於一直喜歡的美術和體育都不是被重視的,美術是設計人物場景,表現美最根本的一環.體育和電影遊戲動畫息息相關,了解牽一髮動全身,了解自己 身體所有關節和肌肉和心理連結的那份感覺,要發展好動畫,一個環節都不能少.而且是從小開始,更不是速成的.

考慮台灣目前能替世界做出怎樣代表性的作品,這樣的格局才有可能在世界上有一立足地,任何偉大的成就都不光光是單一個人單一事件造成的. 小有小的美,大有大的美,重要的在於我們有沒有想跟其他人分享的經驗 或是世界上任何一個角落都感受不到的絕佳經驗,在台灣發生著.

我們只能去製造一個良好的環境給台灣發產出良好的動畫,而不是帶領著大家走到一個我們也不知道哪的地方.

知識好比貝殼,悲痛好比細砂,當人生經歷越豐富,外殼也就越來越厚,細砂也成了五彩的珍珠,貝殼越來越美,越來越繁複,也越看不清楚,當想開了脫殼而出看個清楚,也變成最後一次的看到真實自己.
留下來的是數不清的貝殼紋路與珍珠令人著迷的色彩.

琴棋書畫.言語.文字.網路.電腦如橋梁或觸手.
當我們設法把所有精力發揮在這些工具,想去了解奇蹟,到頭來找尋的其實是人本身. 人的歷史裡重複的印證這些,但人總是得重複走過一樣的路去體驗,然後紀錄下來給下一代.
受感動,感動,到頭來都是因為我們是人

Instruments, chess, books, paintings, brushes, internet, and computers are all bridges that connect the real feelings between humans. We spend all our life time to build these tools and enhance it. After all, it is not the things which touch us, it is the human itself moved us. The history constantly repeats this, and people could not feel until they go through it and than they wrote it down.

Life Drawings and Life Digital Painting

She was a very good model. Holding poses really well and for the last one hour, the second session she went back to exactly same pose right away.
For drawings I try a new Faber Castell charcoal pencil(Medium).
It gives me much smooth shading than regular compressed charcoal.

Nowadays everything shift fast and people look for something new rather than something lasts longer. Good or Bad? Time became fragment and for what we could do is limited.
In an hour, I won't be able to finish a oil so I did this one hour digital painting.

昨晚的Model非常的好,不只動作好,連最後一個小時長時間的動作,都可以回到一模一樣的動作.這次試了新的炭筆,比起一般的炭筆更可以畫出連續色調,不過因為蕊心比較小,對於大的畫面不太容易.

有關零碎的時間與創作形式

5分鐘:可以攝影或速寫,這是我認為最快速的創作方式.
10分鐘:可以速寫.
一個小時:可以完整素描,如果是彩色,水彩也是好的媒材,但油畫就相對困難,有太多的步驟不易簡化,如今電腦可以做到局部,完整的上色,但問題是只能在室內,顯示屏幕的發展對戶外強光仍沒有好的解決方案,但有些數位創作的畫家做到了戶外寫生,而且都在短時間內完成.
三個小時:是基本油畫創作的最底線,前後準備工具,實際作畫可能少於兩個小時.

生活總是這樣的,人生而是群居,孤立生活最終導致的是一灘不流動的水.
在整個環境變遷和人們價值關連續改變下,有人的想領導大眾,走向各別的理想大地,有人是隨波逐流,不管如何都是得改變. 在改變的情況下,人都還是有情感抒發與寄託.
這是上面這張一小時的數位人體的由來.也是感嘆個人創作時間零碎和短暫.

從十年前開始,運用電腦繪畫如爆炸般的方式展開,這關鍵點也是電腦發展到可以實際運用的程度.如今從事這方面影像工作的人們,最重要的是學習古代大師的智慧進而運用到現代數位藝術上面. 然而現今3D電腦繪圖的發展相當驚人,運用的層面也越來越廣,善用和結合將會是未來需要面對的.

A Still Life Painting_Cherry

These cherries dropped this morning.

I taped it on a canvas and painted this.

Since I try to mimic the traditional way which I will do with oil painting, I did this one with two brushes, two layers, and eyeball to select color without UNDO in Photoshop.

今早出門時在院子撿了這剛從樹上掉下的櫻桃, 正在欣賞這只有短暫壽命的櫻桃,決定將這美捕捉下來,於是用紙膠貼到油畫布,畫了這張.
在電腦裡開了一張約20吋的畫布,因為想模擬傳統畫法,畫的過程只使用兩個筆刷,兩個圖層,背景色和前景的櫻桃,以及用肉眼選色,也完全避免UNDO.

書裡是這麼寫的.

最近看書才發現原來這個我熟知的大樹是這麼不一樣,他的所在位置在奧林匹克國家公園. 幾乎每次去那邊都會拜訪這棵大樹,看過很多的大樹,特別喜歡這棵,非常的與眾不同 另外也介紹一本跟樹有關的書籍,叫做Remarkable Trees of the World.

第一張照片是從樹洞裡往上拍攝的, 別有洞天大概就是這意思吧.
